The people behind LearnCoach
In his job as a secondary school teacher, David Cameron (not the one responsible for Brexit) had seen many of his own students struggling.
“Roses are red, Violets are blue, Dear Mr. Cameron, I don’t know what to do.”
After receiving that poem from a student, Dave decided to do something about it — and LearnCoach was born. It grew from helping 150 students after its launch in 2012 to helping over 150,000 students every year: that’s 80% of the entire NCEA population.

Exams are at the centre
Exam grades carry real weight — they shape confidence, standing among parents, teachers, and peers, and the doors that open next: jobs and further study. Caring about them unlocks a student’s future and self-belief, so we’re unapologetically focused on grades and exam success.
Study should be simple and productive
Studying is hard work, so we cut the cognitive load: only what’s on the exam, no fluff, chunked into steps that deliver quick wins instead of a wall of information. High effort deserves an overwhelmingly high payback.
Success should come early
Nobody wants to pour effort into study that doesn’t work. So you succeed on real past exam questions in your very first session — undeniable proof that you can do this, and that you’ll get there if you keep going.
It works for every student
